December 25

On December 23 the graduation ceremony for SEMBA 2009 group took place. 24 C-level executives and business owners from all over Ukraine were awarded with SEMBA Diplomas.

On December 24, the first corporate program for Ukrtransgas middle management was successfully finished. 26 senior engineers from all Ukraine’s regions were awarded with their certificates. The Program was designed and implemented taking into account the industry specific nature.

On December 19, participants of PMD “Mini-MBA” group 2009 were awarded with their certificates. Team work and usability of the acquired skills were named among the most valuable learning outcomes of the Program.

Acknowledgment of successes of MIM’s community (22 MIM people ranked among TOP 100 Ukraine’s executives and 3 – among top 5 in Global Management Game) generated a wide discussion on how to convert managerial competitiveness into national competitiveness. To respond to raised questions MIM-Kyiv starts its “Talking Management Practices” where MIM’s community opinion leaders will discuss the hottest issues related to managerial practices, impact of business to the society and complex relationship between business and society. Mr. Volodymyr Bantser, professor of organizational behavior and management psychology talks about Oriental, namely Chinese managerial practices underpinned by traditional philosophy.

On December 3 – 4 Prof. Iryna Tykhomyrova, MIM-Kyiv President delivered a presentation on Ukraine’s Competitiveness based upon the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2009 a project to which MIM-Kyiv is an exclusive partner of IMD-Lausanne World Competitiveness Center (WCC). Prof. Tykhomyrova talked at the “Open Donbass” V International Economic Forum.

On December 2, MIM-Kyiv held its first HR Committee meeting. Dr. Sergiy Teplov, MIM-Kyiv HR professor, HR Director for “Zoloti Vorota” (Golden Gates) corporation (#1 in construction market) presided at the meeting of more than 60 participants. They discussed the factors of managerial success in times of uncertainty.

In late November Prof. Iryna Tykhomyrova took part in the round table discussion “International Reputation of Ukraine: From Measuring to Management” which was held within “Reputation Days in Ukraine” held by Reputation Capital Ukraine, the partner of Reputaion Institution, the world leader in the area of reputation management.

On November 25 the new project “Business Workshops” kicked off. The new project is another networking initiative that MIM’s people see instrumental in doing business and keeping up with cutting-edge managerial approaches and businesses.

On November 19 – 20, 6 MIM-Kyiv faculty participated in the 1st Global Peter Drucker Forum. The Forum, itself became a platform for on-going dialogue between academia and industry shaping the future trends in managerial approaches. Social and cultural context and new requirements to future managers were in the focus of the discussion.

On November 28, MIM-Kyiv held the awarding ceremony for its best students, partners and alumni, who were ranked top in the Global Management Game and “Investytsiyna Gazeta” (Invetment Newspaper), the national weekly rating of Ukraine’s top managers during the special MIM-Kyiv Business Club Meeting at InterContinental Hotel. More than 180 people participated in the Meeting.

On November 11, Dr. Galyna Maistruk, Academic Director for MIM-Kyiv MBA in Healthcare Management Program participated in the round table discussion on reforms in public health held by “Komentary” weekly, MIM-Kyiv’s media partner. Mr. Vasyl Knyazevych, Minister of Public Health, Dr. Myckola Polischuk, Head of the National Council on Public Health, Mr. Oleksandr Zavada, President of the Ukraine’s National Insurance Federation, etc. took part in the discussion.

On November 12, Liga Business Inform, leading business e-resource hosted “What does it take to be the most sought after manager” conference featuring Prof. Iryna Tykhomyrova, MIM-Kyiv’s President and Prof. Yuri Martyniuk, MIM-Kyiv’s Vice President. The most important question was whether MBA can help to master global tendencies and drastic changes and become the most looked for manager.

On November 6 Mr. Jang Chang, director of Shanghai Museum started Ukrainian tour of PLAY INK INK PLAY art show by his visit to MIM-Kyiv and presenting the art project to Prof. Iryna Tykhomyrova, The President of MIM-Kyiv and the school’s students and faculty.

Last week MIM-Kyiv as a partner of the “Innovation Breakthrough 2009” National Competition greeted Mr. Volodymyr Lomakin, winner of “The Most Promising Innovation Project” nomination of the national competition.

On October 23 new PMD “mini-MBA” and PMD “Marketing” started. This year MIM-Kyiv launched its renewed PMD programmes that answer challenges that Ukraine’s business currently faces. PMD “mini-MBA” curriculum is based upon project management approach whish currently is much in demand. PMD “Marketing” addresses marketing management as business driver.

On October 14, Business Club Marketing Committee started its activities by informal discussion about new demands to marketers defined by uncertainty conditions and crisis.

Three MIM-Kyiv MBA teams were ranked among top 5 out of 50 participating teams from all over the world. 20 MIM-Kyiv MBAs were among top 10% individual performers out of 300 participants.

International standards in teaching Business English as a part of MBA programme are implemented in MIM-Kyiv. Business English Certificate exam preparation course as a part of MBA programme is provided jointly with the British Council, an authorized representative of the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

Recently MIM-Kyiv hosted an open lecture by Rev. Borys Gudziak, Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University. He talked about current spiritual challenges and Christianity in XXI. The presentation followed by the discussion with MIM-Kyiv community.

On July 23, 2009 MBA and SE MBA students presented their summaries of summer study trips to Switzerland, the USA and China. Each study trip revealed both different managerial approaches and common business practices.

“Investytsiyna Gazeta” (Invetment Newspaper), the national weekly included Ms. Oksana Semenyuk, Mr. Olexander Fedchenko, Mr. Sergey Lizunov, Mr. Dmytro Piltay, Mr. Georgiy Chernavsky, Mr. Olexander Buben and Mr. Olexander Bilets, MIM-Kyiv students and alumni among the top100 ranking of Ukraine’s top managers. Ms. Oksana Semenyuk were ranked #1 HR manager in Ukraine by “Investytsiyna Gazeta”.

On June 28 – July 13 MIM MBA students (evening groups) went on their study trips to Teppers School of Business (the US), MIM-Kyiv’s long-time partner. The study trip fell into two parts: classes at Tepper’s and company visits to industries’ leaders.

On July 12 Hong Kong group came back home from the intensive trip to Hong Kong loaded with impressions, ideas and business plans.

July 10 was the last day of the study trip. It was split into 2 parts: Presentations of MIM projects and presentation of Chinese cultural approaches that influence business.

July 9 was a day of sites’ visits. MIM’s group visited DVD manufacture facilities, ATL Logistics Centre and warehouse.

July 8 was a day of e-commerce, banking sector regulation and investment management. Prof. Wong summed up the day with his insights into doing business in/with China.

On July 7 MIM group visited two major exhibitions: Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2010 and Summer Sourcing Show for Gift, Houseware and Toy.

July 3 was a day of varieties. MIM’s group learnt about governmental investment incentives, visited trading floor of the Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing House, discussed real estate market trends, talked to international consulting industry people and even had fun in Macao.

July 2 gave an extremely tough schedule for the group. Prof. Godwin Wong from Haas School of Business (Berkeley University of California, USA) and permanent visiting professor for MIM-Kyiv, Mr. Simon Ip, Esq., ex-president for Asia Pacific Forum of the International Bar Association, Ms. Lily Chan, ÑÅΠ for Mannings retail company, a member of Dairy Farm Group and Mr. Willis Ting, executive director for Shenyin Wanguo Capital Limited. Legal, cultural and economic peculiarities were in focus of the discussion. But successful retail practices caused passionate discussions.

“One country, two systems” policy was in focus of the MBA group attention when on July 1 they witnessed the Handover Day (the day when the sovereignty was transferred from the UK to People’s Republic of China). Other issues under discussions included investment projects in public and private sector and FMCG activities.

June 28. MBA group landed at Hong Kong International Airport and got the warm welcome from Prof. Godwin Wong, the host of the international study tour and MIM’s visiting professor and long-term partner. Everyone was impressed by Oriental hospitality and efficiency.

In May 2009 CEOs and C-level managers of Ukraine’s healthcare private and public institutions started their studies at the first ever MBA in Healthcare Management. The programme is aimed at mastering the wide array of managerial competencies and to improve and systematize specific knowledge and skills necessary for managing medical institutions.

In early June 2009 MIM-Kyiv hosted Ernst&Young SIFE Ukraine 2009 National Contest. MIM-Kyiv has been SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) partners for 3 years. MIM’s experts sit on jury of the Contest. The students’ teams present their educational projects aimed at the promoting entrepreneurship in free market at the regional level.

32 PMD “Mini-MBA” 2008 – 2009 students graduated from MIM-Kyiv last week. New skills and knowledge, new networking opportunities and creative approaches were among the programme outcomes rated the highest by graduates.

On May 29 – 30 MIM-Kyiv celebrated its 20th anniversary. Top people from business, artistic and governmental circles were guests of honor of the celebration.

On May 19 MIM-Kyiv, an exclusive partner for IMD-Lausanne World Competitiveness Center (WCC) presented the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2009. This year Ukraine was rated 56.

In Early May SEMBA students went to their study tour to Switzerland. In addition to traditional visits to HSBC PB, Nestle, DuPont, Lundin Petroleum the students also attended Mirabaud & Cie (the oldest Europ’s bank), Philip Morris International, Caterpillar and Swatch.

In early April Prof. Godwin Wong from Haas School of Business (Berkeley, California) delivered his “Venture Capital. Integrated Challenges” course to SE MBA students. He discussed different issues of attracting capital in the global marketplace in the recession period.

He discussed leadership issues, HR management, strategic development in crisis and management of international companies in Ukrainian market.

MIM-Kyiv joined the UN Global Compact on Corporate Social Responsibility. Currently, there are 200 Ukraine’s and international companies and influential non-for-profit organizations many of which are headed by MIM-Kyiv’s graduates that signed the Compact.

On February 16 MIM-Kyiv hosted joint meeting of the Diplomatic Club (Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation) and Kyiv International Energy Club (Q-Club). Ukraine and Europe energy safety issues were discussed by ambassadors of EU countries, governmental officials and energy and political experts. The meeting resulted in the drafting of suggestions in the area of energy safety that will be submitted to the appropriate Ukraine’s and EU governmental agencies.

On February 3 2009, action group of MIM-Kyiv alumni conducted its special meeting to launch Alumni Association. Alumni Association activities will be aimed at reinforcing the contacts within the community and increase of the association and the School visibility.

On January 29-30 2009, Dr. Iryna Tykhomyrova, MIM-Kyiv’s President, attended EFMD meeting for Deans and Directors General at SDA Bocconi business school in Milan (Italy). 292 business schools representatives from 44 countries participated in the event.

That is the name of the new programme launched by MIM-Kyiv to better knit its students and alumni community. Started in 2008 by a series of master classes were taught by MIM-Kyiv professors in the regions and off-the-record meetings with the leading statesmen and business leaders the programme continues this year.

Enhancement of internationality is 2009 priority for MIM-Kyiv. This year MIM-Kyiv launches its new stage of cooperation with Tepper School of Business (Carnegie Mellon University) within the framework of the signed in 2008 Memorandum of Collaboration. New activities in the area of reciprocal study tours, further development of educational programs, development of the distance learning courses/programs and co-authorship of articles and cases has started.
