UBS AG, one of the world leading financial firms and MIM-Kyiv’s lonf-term partner presented their Global Outlook 2009 for MIM-Kyiv community and friends. The presentation covered the results of their regular research of the current situation and next year perspectives. Dr. Constantin Vayenas, Head of Emerging Markets Research, UBS Wealth Management highlighted the global trends for 2009. There is a chance of financial market stabilization in late 2009 and the end of the year might even witness some growth.
On December 17 DataGroup Corporation managers from all over Ukraine finished their studies at the corporate the programme. Mr. Oleksandr Danchenko, Datagroup CEO greeted his people on the occasion of their graduation.
Mr. Oleksandr Fedchenko, Incom Company CEO, and Mr. Serhiy Mahliuy, VP for innovations and Head of the Supervisory Board of the Company were on final examinations board assessing the obtained knowledge and skills of their mid-level management.
Prof. Max Goltsberg and Prof. Lina Khassan-Bek taught “Business Management in the Time of Turbulence and Uncertainty” master-class on surviving through the crisis in Dnepropetrovsk.
On December 4, MIM-Kyiv hosted its alumni and students meeting with Mr. Valeriy Khoroshkovskiy, Chairman of the Customs Administration of Ukraine, Ph.D. (economics), ex-Minister of Economics of Ukraine.
At the end of November 2008, the eighth PMD Marketing group graduated from MIM-Kyiv. To enumerate advantages of the programme or graduates’ educational achievements is not enough to convey our feelings. It is because business education at MIM-Kyiv (and PMD Marketing programme in particular) is not only systemic and relevant, but rather emotional and philosophical.
On November 20, MIM-Kyiv hosted alumni and students meeting with MP and Ex-Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine. Welcoming the participants, Mr. Yatsenyuk mentioned that it was his first time when he had to speak before such highly professional audience and that he was interested in both sharing his own views of the world financial crisis and “overall” Ukraine crisis, but also to get the input from of business community.
On November 5-6 2008, Dr. Iryna Tykhomyrova, President MIM-Kyiv, took part in the EFMD – CEIBS Conference “Chinese Companies Going Global” that took place in Shanghai. Current challenges for business education, globalization and the role of the new powerful players, including China were discussed at the Conference.
II International “Personnel EXPO” exhibition that took place at Kyiv Expo Plaza was crowded by HR executives looking for new jobs rather than for educational providers as it was earlier this year. Panic tone of the market dominated the exhibition.
At the end of October 2008, MIM-Kyiv hosted international students’ championship in business management “Business Battle”. Within the framework of the championship the students’ teams competed in management of the virtual company under severe competition.
On October 19-20 2008, MIM-Kyiv hosted Effective Team Leadership training was. It was a joint effort of MIM-Kyiv and Global Leadership (USA) and The Forum of Young Ukrainian Leaders national association. Global Leadership is a non-profit organization of successful businessmen and public leaders from the USA, Canada and Western Europe.
In the middle of October, Dr. Yuri Martyniuk, VP of MIM-Kyiv, Chair of Management and Economics Department participated in the “Executive Education in a Changing World” conference conducted in Lisbon by European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).
On October 17-21 2008, new Programs for Management Development (PMD “mini-MBA”, PMD “Finance & Accounting” and PMD “Marketing”) were launched at MIM-Kyiv. The number of managers enrolled in the programmes increased by 30%.
On October 15 2008, a master-class of Dr Max Goltsberg and Dr Lina Khassan-Bek, leading MIM-Kyiv professors was held in Donetsk. The mater-class started the number of meetings with regional alumni community and MIM’s friends within the framework of “MIM-Kyiv is 20!” project. DataGroup Company, Upras Capital and First Ukrainian International Bank, the companies managed by MIM-Kyiv alumni co-partnered the event. Senior and top managers from the leading companies operating or headquartered in the region attended master-class “Ukrainian Company: International Investor Perspective”.
Economics Publishing House awarded the winners of the annual rating “TOP-100 Best Companies of Ukraine”. Just as every previous year, MIM-Kyiv graduates are CEOs of the most successful companies.
Mr. Kostyantyn Klymenko, MIM-Kyiv’s MBA is appointed as the National Director of Marketing Department at SAN InBev Ukraina Company, the leader of Ukrainian beer market, producer of such well-known brands as Stella Artois, Beck’s, Staropramen, Chernihivske.
On October 7 2008, MIM-Kyiv participated in the regular annual professional exhibition QS World MBA Tour. Together with the prominent schools from Russia, Hungary, France, Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, Canada, USA, Australia and India MIM-Kyiv represented its programs. It was a good chance to assess cost and benefit ratio of taking full-time or Executive MBA in Ukraine and abroad.

Dr. Iryna Tykhomyrova, MIM-Kyiv President and Dr. Susan L. Burkett, Associate Vice-President of Carnegie Mellon University (USA) signed an official Memorandum of further collaboration in the area international study trips, development of academic programs and courses as well as joint research.
On October 1, MIM-Kyiv participated in the exhibition “Education for Adults: Second Higher Education and MBA”. Dr. Oleksiy Vynogradov’s, Head of Marketing and PR master class “Business Education as a Personal Marketing Tool” reflected the trends in Ukraine’s educational market. The exhibition was also a good chance to network with HR community and business school students.
Regular fall semester course on international business is a good opportunity to learn and practice business administration skills and practice them on-line. The course is taught in the format of Global Management Game, international business simulation, jointly with Carnegie Mellon University (USA). As the part of the course MIM-Kyiv participants reported to the “Board of Directors” that consisted of Ukrainian and international top-managers.
On October 1, 2008 MIM-Kyiv will participate in the exhibition “Osvita dlya doroslykh” (“Education for Adults”), organized by “Begin Group” Company. Visitors to the exhibition will have a chance to attend a lecture of Dr.Oleksiy Vynogradov, Director of MIM-Kyiv Marketing and Public Relations Department. Dr. Vynogradov will cover the issues of professional development, increasing one’s personal market value and in-company’s efficiency, and how to select a the most adequate business school and a specific program.
Dr. Oleksiy Sitnikov, a well-known expert in the field of couching for business-elite, management psychological consulting, and a mass communication in CIS rendered his master class “Technologies of Effective Communications” for MIM-Kyiv alumni and students on 19 September.
Effective alumni community is a key to MIM-Kyiv’s success. Within the framework of alumni’s community activities Mr. Bo Eske Nyhus, Commercial Counsellor of Royal Danish Embassy in Ukraine and MIM-Kyiv MBA 2007 initiated the recent visit to MIM-Kyiv by representativesof Danish Association for International Economics Professors.
Volodymyr Ignatov, MBA 2001; Yevgen Zaika, MBA 2003; Vitaly Shatokhin, MBA 2001; and Volodymyr Mitin, MBA 2003 were among top 5 managers in pharma industry. Mr. Ignatov was also declared the best manager 2008 during the IX annual industry convention “Panacea”.
On September 18 0 20 Prof. Godwin Wong from Haas School of Business (Berkeley, California) delivered his “Venture Capital. Integrated Challenges” course to SE MBA students. He discussed different issues of going IPO, global investment opportunities, and anatomy of venture capital business.
MIM-Kyiv congratulates 35 graduates of the tailor made PMD program for DiAD Company. During the graduation ceremony Dr. Iryna Tykhomyrova mentioned that relationship with our alumni and corporate clients was more a partnership. “We are not limited to teaching you. We are learning from you. And also shape the new fprms of partnership”, said Dr. Tykhomyrova.
Personal effectiveness is a key to company’s competitiveness. That was the focus of this year study tour of second year MBA students’ study tour. Tepper Business School at the Carnegie Mellon University, MIM-Kyiv’s almost a 15-year partner assisted in organizing the tour.
MIM-Kyiv partnership with Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University (USA) started about 15 years ago with the aim to develop MBA program in Ukraine and to train Ukrainian professors for that purpose. Those were complex issues for MIM-Kyiv. The professors of Ukrainian higher education institutions had a vague idea of what MBA program is like and the teaching methods were supposed to be dramatically different from the ones they were used to.

Mr. Mark de Kegel, ex Global managing director risk and quality of client projects Accenture consulting company (Belgium) delivered the “Strategic Management” course to Senior Executive MBA students. Strategy is one of the most urgent issues for Ukrainian entrepreneurs and rather a novelty.

On June 4-7, 2008, MIM-Kyiv visiting professor Marc de Kegel delivered lectures at MIM-Kyiv for SE MBA group. Mr. de Kegel has an abundant experience in consulting activities, especially while holding the position of Global managing director risk and quality of client projects for Accenture consulting company being responsible for US$3.5 billion business. Norsk Hydro, DuPont, Exxon Chemicals, UCB, KBB/Hema, and Carrefour were among his clients. Currently, Mr. de Kegel is active as a private consultant and coach to a number of companies in banking, executive search, trend watching & market research, public affairs & corporate communications. He also teaches at leading European business schools.
International Management Institute is delighted to announce that Dr. Iryna Tykhomyrova has been appointed the new President of the MIM-Kyiv as of June 1, 2008.
Prof. Serhiy Golov and Prof. Valentyna Kostyuchenko (Accounting Department) together with the other 1,100 scientists, accountants and auditors from 51 countries took part in the annual Congress of the European Accounting Association (EAA) in Rotterdam (Netherlands).
In late April MIM’s alumni and students participated in the Career Fair. The research on labor market for middle and senior management was much in demand among the participants.
Dr. Sergiy Golov, the Head of the Accounting Chair, delivered his presentation “Strategic Managerial Accounting as a Part of Competitiveness Monitoring of an Enterprise” at the International Conference “Controlling in Business: Theoretical and Practical Issues”. The Conference was conducted inKyiv National Economic University recently.
On March 22, 2008 the XII Congress of the Ukrainian Federation of Professional Accountants & Auditors (UFPAA) unanimously reelected Dr. Serhiy Golov (the Chair of Accounting) as their President. Dr. Golov will remain the President of the UFPAA up to 2010.
On March 21 the Charity Dinner initiated by Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn, MIM’s founder and Chairman of the Board. Kateryna Mykhailivna Yushchenko, the First Lady was a quest of Honor at the dinner aimed at the support and development of the “Plast” Youth Organization.

Last week Dr. Iryna Tykhomyrova, MIM’s acting President participated in the round table discussion on development of the business education in Ukraine. Round table brought together people from business schools, business education clients, industry associations representatives and governmental agencies.
On March 33 regional directors and unit heads from all over Ukraine started their studies at the tailor made PMD program. The Program will last till December, 2008.
On February 19 Dr. Golov, Head of Accounting Chair talked to the “Financier of the Future or a Future of a Financier” conference participants. In his presentation he covered issues of both professional training and new challenges a post industrial finance pro faces.
