IT Issues Discussed at MIM-Kyiv

November 20, 2006

The event was arranged by Microsoft Ukraine together with the Council on Competitiveness of Ukraine and supported by “TECHINVEST” Venture Company and the US Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine.

As it was pointed out by Yu. Poluneev, the President of MIM-Kyiv and the Head of the Council on Competitiveness of Ukraine, measures aimed at forming the knowledge economy and developing IT industry in Ukraine is becoming a good tradition of MIM-Kyiv. He believes knowledge will remain a source of competitive advantages not only for separate companies, but for the country as a whole.

The participants of the round table spent a lot of time discussing the lack of qualified IT professionals. Every year the deficit of qualified IT professionals in the technology market increases by 2000 openings. Therefore employers, said I. Mendzebors’kyi, the President of “IT-Ukraine” Association, have to train professionals themselves according to the high global standards. This opinion was backed by Î.Kardakov, the President of “Incom” Corporation. His Company has been directly involved in training the required professionals. It should be noted that they perform this starting from high school.

The General Director of Microsoft Ukraine, Valeriy Lanovenko, pointed out that IT market in Ukraine accounts for only 2 to 4% of GDP; thus, one should not pin his hopes on the assistance in development from government within the next few years.
