IT-Market: Issues and Promises

November 13, 2006

D. Shymkiv, the Co-Chairman of the IT-Committee of the American Chamber believes one of the major issues in the sector is arranging for the dialogue between the IT-sector with the system of education, since the graduates majoring in engineering are supposed to meet the companies’ requirements. The importance of adequate education was also mentioned by Yuri Poluneev, the Head of the CCU and President of MIM-Kyiv. The success in the IT-sphere, in his opinion, is an unconditional factor that promotes competitiveness of a country overall. However, Serhiy Loboyko, the “Techinvest’s” Managing Director, emphasized the issue of personnel drain, usually, the most talented engineers. The appearance of well-known IT companies on the Ukrainian market might cease this process.

V. Bilodid, the Director of the United Software Corporation – Ukraine, believes that nowadays Ukraine witnesses revival of interest in technical education. However, the venture capital volumes are scarce and the system of training of highly qualified executives is still underdeveloped. Either way, all the participants of the round-table were unanimous as to the opinion that the domestic hi-tech market is rapidly expanding and is flexible and open to innovations.
