On July 14 MIM-Kyiv initiated and held ACC Healthcare committee meeting on reforming Ukrainian public health system. The meeting provided a platform for discussion regarding priority steps to be taken in reforming the national healthcare system. It was aimed at sharing the best international practices based on British and Canadian experience. MIM -Kyiv Healthcare MBA participants presented Canadian best practices learnt during their internship in Toronto and Ottawa.
On July 14 – 17 AIESEC, world’s students-run organization conducted its 16th international conference “Leadership Development Seminar 2010”. MIM-Kyiv sponsored the Conference as the educational partner. On July 14 MIM-Kyiv hosted the opening day of the conference attended by 160 people from all over the world.
On June 20 – 25 MIM-Kyiv people participated in the “RoundTables for Practising Managers” conducted at the University of Exeter Business School. They spend a week University of Exeter Business School other select faculty on the nature of managerial work. According to the agreement signed by MIM-Kyiv and University of Exeter Business School MIM-Kyiv will host one of the next Roundtables.
“Business” Weekly, the #1 national business publication, put out the interview by Mr. Martin Staub, MIM-Kyiv visit professor. Mr. Staub taught “How High Performance Businesses Manage in Uncertain Times” course at Ukraine’s first DBA program. He talked to Ms. Elena Kuryacha, “Business” staff writer about how to manage people and internal and external communications in crisis and post-crisis period.
Classic saying “Money does not perform. People do” , was a good illustration of what was going on in Hong Kong at the end of the study trip. How to negotiate with a Chinese partner? What’s the difference between Western and Oriental decision-making process? How better understand what is said and more important is not said? All those and many more questions were answered at the lecture on cross-cultural management delivered by Prof. Godwin Wong.
MIM-Kyiv and “Delo” (Venture) weekly, one of top 5 national business media launched joint project “MBA in 90 Days”. For 90 days the weekly will publish MIM-Kyiv faculty series of master-classes that cover the most urgent managerial issues.
Logistics and distribution were the topics of the last days in Hong Kong. In the morning MIM group watched live how the cargo side port operates. Site visit both gave the flavor of the operations and enabled everyone to see the detail that escapes the attention at the presentation
On June 8 after experiencing hospitality business in Macau MIM’s group was back to work. Ms. Angel Young, Executive Director, FMCG clients talked about Chinese consumers’ trends and they differ from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Saving up to 50% of the income in a piggy bank shapes the consumers’ preferences and makes them price sensitive. Thus, promotion activities are effective marketing instrument.
All drivers of Asian economic miracle were in the spotlight on June 4. Early morning started at CyberPort, investment project of Hong Kong government worth of US$2 billion and home for the biggest IT companies. Innovation and R&D are located in the one of the best areas of Hong Kong.
Traditional Beijing opera style characters started big cross-cultural day in Hong Kong. Prof. Godwin Wong, MIM-Kyiv long term partner and professor of the Haas Haas School of Business (Berkeley University of California, USA) delivered his presentations “InterCultural Management: Negotiation/Dealing with China” & “China Business and Investment Strategies”. He focused on how and why Ukrainian business people do business in Hong Kong and China providing very special insights on Ukrainian-Chinese cultural peculiarities. HE Prof. Wong also talked about opportunities provided by Macao and other territories in China.
June 2 was a big day of high finance. It started with the visit to Government “InvestHongKong” hosted by Mr. Simon Galpin its Executive Director. “InvestHK” is the department for foreign direct investment, under the policy purview of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government, responsible for attracting and facilitating inward investment into the city. As investment competition in the Pacific interim is getting tougher “InvestHongKong” supports overseas, Mainland and Taiwanese companies to set up and expand in Hong Kong. The organization partners with clients on a long term basis and is available to help at any stage of business development process. As the result, in 2009 265 companies were established in Hong Kong assisted by “InvestHongKong”.
MIM-Kyiv EMBA participants have started their international study tour to Hong Kong. For the second time MIM’s EMBAs are trying to unravel the secret of one of the new superpowers in the world.
On June 1, MIM-Kyiv hosted SIFE Ukraine (Students in Free Enterprise) National Competition for the 4th time in a row. The support of the students’ national competition is a one of constituents of MIM-Kyiv’s CSR activities.
The 2nd module of the Ukraine’s first DBA program was about management in uncertain times. Mr. Martin Staub, Chairman of the MS Consulting delivered main presentation. Ms. Mette Skjold Rotboll, Managing Director for Vigil Wealth Management AG (Philanthropic Ventures & Responsible Wealth) talked about responsible investment and corporate social responsibility principles as the instrument for the sustainable growth. Prof. Lina Khassan-Bek and Prof. Max Goltsberg, Academic Directors for the program summarized the findings of the module.
Assessment and accreditation is an important part of Canadian public health. That is why visit to Accreditation Canada was interesting and informative. Standards and procedures against which the medical institutions are measured were in the focus of the discussion.
Ottawa Diaries: Information, Regulation & International Cooperation
Different elements of the Canadian public health were in focus of the Ottawa visits. On May 11 the participants visited Canadian Institute for Health Information. The Institute has immense databases and unique tools for analyzing this information. The Institute enables public health people to monitor and analyze medical services in Canada, to manage industry’s human resources, etc.
After Toronto Healthcare MBA participants moved to Ottawa where they started from the visit to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital, leading medical facility in the area close to Ottawa. The hospital has 450 employees, is accredited by Canadian Council on Health Services and has an operating budget of 34 mio Canadian Dollars.
On May 18 Alumni Marketing Committee discussed numbers in marketing. Prof. Oleksiy Vynogradov and Andrii Dligach, General Director and founder of Advanter Group moderated the discussion.
MIM-Kyiv Presented IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2010 Results. Recently, Ukraine has moved down from 56th to 57th position in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2010. By analyzing collected data over last four years we can summarize some trends in national economic development and the impact of the crisis on various aspects of business, society and state. Results of the rating indicate areas of special attention of all the stakeholders.
Last week SE MBA group came back from Switzerland after its two-week study tour. Global manufacturers, FMCG giants, big-league Swiss banks, outstanding IMD and international organizations were in focus of the study tour.
Prof. Iryna Tykhomyrova talked to “Ukrinform” one of the key news agencies in Ukraine about the results of the executives’ survey conducted within the framework of the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook project. The Company’s management responsible for the international trade had a heated discussion with Ukraine’s healthcare leaders about how the Company functions in Ukraine. The findings of that meeting are planned to be implemented in June.
Prof. Volodymyr Pospolitak and Mr. Petr Borowski, Regional Director for Warsaw Stock Exchange conducted joint seminar “Capital Markets in Ukraine: Ukrainian Issuers’ Challenges in Warsaw”. The Seminar was followed by the series of seminars on the civil and commercial law at the Jagiellonian University at Krakow upon the invitation of the Law faculty of the University.
Day 1: Healthcare System, Training and Family Physicians
On May 2, 2010 Healthcare MBA participants started their study tour to Canada. Canadian healthcare system and management is considered to be a good example for Ukraine’s healthcare system and newly established national healthcare industry.
Day 3: Oncology Diseases Prevention and Information Flows
The group spent the morning of May 5 at the Cancer Care Ontario. The Cancer Care people talked about cancer services in Ontario, prevention and screening, and quality improvement and standards. All the participants believed that Canadian experience is of great use in Ukraine.
Day 2: the Other Side of the Perfect Insurance and National Healthacare System Features
On May 4 the morning was spent at the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The ministry officials gave the overview of the Ministry’s activities and shared their concerns about bottlenecks of medical insurance system (long waiting lists for medical services). Special attention was paid running diseases prevention programs, in particular diabetes, oncology and excessive weight programs. HR management regulation was also of special interest for the program participants.
April meeting of Business Workshop discussed on-line platform providing professional communications for young and ambitious professionals. Mr. I. Nakonechny, MIM’s Alumni community friend presented the project for discussion.
After successful defense of the final papers PMD Marketing students were awarded with their certificates. They have given their assessment of the program ranging from “satisfactory” to “excellent”. All comments given in the assessments are now being analysed and implemented in the program.
MIM-Kyiv hosted its alumni HR Committee meeting which some Kyiv HRs who pull weight attended. Prof. Iryna Tykhomyrova welcomed the participants and noticed that MIM-Kyiv became intellectual platform for the hottest business issues discussions.
MIM-Kyiv’s educational endeavour has always been aimed at much wider than business people audience. Understanding businesses’ responsibility MIM-Kyiv has sponsored national journalism competition “Chest Professiyi” (Professional Pride) founded by the Ukrainian Association of Press Publishers (UAPP) and Independent Association of TV and Radio Professionals (NAM).
MIM-Kyiv and UBS, one of the world’s leading financial firms has a long record of cooperation. SEMBA groups when going to Switzerland for their study tours always visit UBS headquarters in Zurich. There they discussed both bank’s operational activities and analytics on global economic and financial trends offered by UBS’s analysts. For a long time UBS conducted their presentations for Ukrainian public at MIM-Kyiv.
On April 9 the new intake of 32 people started their classes. Nearly all of them indicated further professional development as the main reason for choosing MIM’s program. Some of the students are considering PMD program a pilot project before investing their resources in full scale EMBA program.

MIM-Kyiv Business Club started the liberal vector by meeting Ms. Larysa Ivshyna, editor-in-chief of the most popular national daily. Mr. Vitaliy Gayduk, MIM-Kyiv’s Board member joined the discussion.
DBA program a new program for Ukraine’s education market successfully started at MIM-Kyiv. Mr. Vitaliy Gayduk, Ukraine’s well-known businessman and statesman and member of MIM-Kyiv Board welcomed its the participants. «Leading Change» module delivered by Prof. Christopher H. Cordey from Switzerland, Prof. Lina Khasan-Bek and Prof. Max Goltsberg, DBA program academic directors.
Nearly 100 graduates were awarded with their MBA diplomas. Graduation ceremony followed the defense of Masters Theses, 2 of them distinguished by special prizes of Board members.
In March 2010, MIM-Kyiv launches its DBA (Doctor of Business Administration), a new and product into the market. Managing business owners of the domestic businesses going global and C-level executives with at Master’s degree from large national and multinational companies who have immense business experience, strive to generalize and share it through consultancy or teaching at business schools signed in for the program.
Global Management Challenge (GMC), an international competition in the form of the computer simulation which is much similar to Global Management Game, integrated strategic management course from MIM’s curriculum kicked off its 4th season by conducting the starting conference at MIM.

28 executives from all over Ukraine started their Senior Executive MBA program. They represent agricultural, energy, manufacturing, media, and banking businesses.
On January 25 new Modular MBA students from all over Ukraine started their classes. They are after systematic knowledge, strategic approaches to doing business and long-term partnerships.
Prof. Vynogradov shared his ideas on marketing management. He talked to Business weekly, Ukraine’s #1 business edition. A lot of his ideas on innovation and marketing were inspired by 1st Global Peter Drucker Forum.
On January 21, new MBA participants started their classes. Those who are doing MBA, are investing in their careers and future. How to provide for making business effective, adaptive to uncertainty and socially responsible and ensure own career are main reasons for doing MBA.
On January 11 MIM-Kyiv started its new season after Christmas holidays. MBA and PMD groups renewed their classes and 2nd year MBA students will soon have their graduation session.
